About TAG Heuer Aquaracer Watches

The TAG Heuer: Aquacer officially debuted in 2005; however, it is rooted in a long history. The brand has had a perpetual interest in water sports, most specifically in diving. In 1985, Heuer patented the first water resistant case. They developed watches that were water resistant up to 100m, and then down to 1000m.

The Aquaracer is based on the 2000 series, which was released in the 1980s. They retain the early watches’ sporty elegance and robust durability. It features a secure double clasp and a unidirectional bezel, further allowing divers to take risks inherent in exploration. The case is stainless steel, with a sapphire crystal that reduces glare. The timepiece is water resistant up to either 300m or 500m, making it ideal for both amateur and professional divers. One can easily use the watch after dark, with the hour and minute hands featuring green and blue luminescent markers.

Each timepiece must undergo 160 different tests to prove its water-resistance before being released, including those that expose the watch to salt, pressure, humidity, and intense heat. In addition to technological features explicitly made for diving, the design was also built for divers, by divers: the brand’s designers paired with professional divers to create the piece’s appealing and authentic aesthetic.

The Aquaracer 300M features a ceramic bezel and a striped dial. Both of these features are available on all variations. The 500M was presented later, in 2009, and is a bit more robust. There are further design variations on the Aquaracer Calibre 5, which was released in 2013 for the 34th America’s Cup. It has a helium escape valve and a rubber seal to allow for increased water resistance.

There are additional complications available, including a unique chronograph with twelve-hour, sixty second, and thirty-minute subdials, which also features a stopwatch that can count both the total elapsed time and the split time.

A limited edition watch, named the Aquaracer Calibre 5 Leonardo DiCaprio, released only 1,600 pieces. In cooperation with the actor for whom it owes its name, the sales revenue from each sale is distributed to a different environmental organization. Available with either a blue rubber or stainless steel strap, the watch displays the Green Cross or National Resources Defence Council (NDRC) logo on the dial.

There is an Aquaracer collection marketed entirely towards women, and this is one of the most popular ladies’ models made by the brand. They are as functional as those designed for men, allowing women divers to experience the same underwater practicalities as their male counterparts. It is, however, designed with a more feminine aesthetic. One option, for example, is a diamond-encrusted bezel.

While the brand is most frequently associated with the Carrera and the Monaco, there is no doubt that the Aquaracer has been highly regarded and consistently sought after. The model is continuously developing, both in regards to its design and its mechanics. No matter the intensity with which one lives, the TAG Heuer: Aquaracer will prove the ideal timing companion.
